Be Who You Are

Be who you are. Not who everyone expects you to be.

Some of us (myself included) try to fit into the norm. We want to be who is expected. We desire that comradery. That acceptance. That praise that is showered upon us when you meet expectations.

But why? Why would you want to settle for comradery, acceptance, and praise from people who don’t like you, but rather the person that they think you are?

Is this a firstborn child trait?

Perfectionism?

People pleasing?

Perhaps. But I’m sure we’re not the only ones.

Expressing who you are should be the most simple thing in the world. You’re using your words, your actions, to express you. Sounds easy, right?

But it’s not.

It feels safer to live in the box. To meet the expectations. To adhere to the societal norm.

But if that’s not who you are, then it’s not safe. It’s damaging. It damages your soul. It hinders your mission. It halts your life’s purpose.

You came to this earth with a particular mission. A particular set of skills. A particular passion. Dream. Drive.

If you surrender to the box that others’ try to place you in, you sacrifice your purpose.

Is that a fair trade?

Do not gain the world if it will make you lose your soul.

My goal is to break out of this mold to which I have submitted.

I am no longer going to bow to the cowering of my ego. I will no longer allow it to fill me with fear, doubt, or delay. I may be perceived as a weirdo. My writings may not resonate with some. People who always thought they knew me may be disappointed when they find out who I am.

But that’s okay.

Someone may benefit from my expression of my true self. Something I say may inspire others in a way I don’t anticipate or understand. Some people out there may love me… just for being me.

We came to this earth not to be who others think, but to be who we are.

“Today, I embrace my truth, because if I do not, no one else can.”
